25th February 2017

In February, Trevor Cullen and Dawn Bennett attended the 1st world summit of the International Federation for national Teaching Fellows in Birmingham, England. Both fellows presented on their work. The IFNTF is going from strength to strength, with members from the UK and Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and emerging links with countries such as India. Attendees debated the definition of teaching excellence, including its ‘measurement’ in the new UK Teaching Excellence Framework. Excellence was also considered in three strands: high-impact pedagogies, excellence within the disciplines, and learning gain.

The next summit will be held in April 2018 at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada). In the meantime, we have strengthened our links with the 3M Teaching Fellows in Canada, the National Teaching Fellows in the UK, and AkoAotearoa in New Zealand. We hope to hold a combined Fellows’ Forum with New Zealand colleagues within the next 18 months.
